As a child I loved going to the neighborhood hardware store. I would ride my bicycle to a friend’s house and we would pedal up the road to get that 'necessary' cotter pin so that we could finish our newest invention. Hardware stores in the 60’s weren’t like the hardware stores of today. You always knew the owners and who you could talk to about an electrical or plumbing issue. Walking down creaky wooden floors past smelly chemicals and seed bins (where we were always tempted to stick our hands in), we would find the item we needed. At the checkout counter we would pay for our goods, which were rung up on an antique register, and be on our way. Before leaving the store, we would have to pet the bunnies and dream of buying that Red-Rider BB gun in the window.
The memories of such a place stayed with me into my adult years. As my career took its turns I never lost sight of owning a business that was entrenched in the community and provided value added goods and services. Lavender Mountain Hardware and Garden is the fulfillment of such a dream. As we move into our 10th year, we have proven to be the premier shopping destination in Northwest Georgia for hardware, garden supplies, feed, seed, and gifts.
